Anicca

Päivitetty: 7. toukok. 2021

Anicca means impermanence in Pali (old Indian). It is one of the essential doctrines or three marks of existence in Buddhism. The term expresses the Buddhist notion that all of conditioned existence, without exception, is in a constant state of flux.

There is great beauty in the impermanence of all things. Spring is here and so is the inevitable end of my art production course. Throughout this project I've documented my inner and outer process regarding the Omphalos piece, and here are some of the finishing touches.

Putting together the piece was the most difficult part. Actually stringing the cardboard structures together while the wooden pole was loosely hung from my flat's roof (very illegally nailed there in secret from my landlord, please don't tell them) was quite challenging. Though difficult, the progress was nice and fast compared to creating the mandalas. It was nice to see the piece coming together and I can't wait to hang it up! All the parts of the installation are now packaged to a nifty cardboard box, where the piece will be transported to the exhibition and hung up tomorrow.

I hope my piece plants the original meaning of mindfulness into peoples hearts.

"Just as when seeds are not broken, not rotten, not damaged by wind & heat, capable of sprouting, well-buried, planted in well-prepared soil, and the rain-god would offer good streams of rain. Those seeds would thus come to growth, increase, & abundance. In the same way, any action performed with greed… performed with aversion… performed with delusion — born of delusion, caused by delusion, originating from delusion: wherever one’s selfhood turns up, there that action will ripen. Where that action ripens, there one will experience its fruit, either in this very life that has arisen or further along in the sequence." — Buddha

See you at the exhibition in Arktikum!
