Noun. 1. Omphalos - the navel; umbilicus, the central point.
In Ancient Greek Omphalos was a stone thought to mark the center of the earth. Much like this very concrete example dating back many many years, today's people often think of life to revolve around them. As this can often be criticized as self absorbance and selfishness there is also a very healthy element to it if done right.
The only way to experience this world is through your own perspective. The entirety of your psychosomatic being affects the way you react to things around you. If you develop yourself on a deeper level observing the thought patterns and paradigms you've created for yourself, you soon start to consciously dissolve the concept of "youness", the ego. When this happens, you start to realize that the world, in fact, does revolve around you, but also that it is you.
Omphalos is meant to showcase the beauty of becoming one with the world through the exercise of mindfulness. Walking through my installation you make the mandalas move as the air connects your movement to the piece. Now stay still and calm your mind. As your thoughts begin to dissipate, so slows down the whirl of the mandalas finally to almost complete stillness.
Be still and the universe becomes you.
