I got the idea for the largest painting in the exhibition when I was visiting an art gallery. I was enchanted both by the colour of light in the early spring and the different ways one can play with shadows and perspective when making art, and I wanted to combine this newly found curiosity into a great big masterpiece.
On the same week I got an order for a bigger painting and free hands to do whatever I wanted, how convinient! I got to work straight away.

I worked with 150cm x 200cm plywood base. Took a couple of layers of gesso until I was satisfied with the surface texture.

I played around with couple of different colour combinations, and ended up replacing blue with purple per clients request.

Splash! This was definitely the most fun part!

Shadows of trees taking their shape. At this point I realised the piece had developed a mind of its own and was turning out far more menacing than I intended. My autumn was quite shocking as I lost my grandpa to cerebral hemorrhage. Same month just as shockingly my good colleague past away due to a massive stroke. Subconsciously I must have entwined these darker themes into my art process, making the piece to have even more depth and ways to be interpreted.

And here it is once again, the finished piece!
I am overall satisfied with the end result. It transformed from an exploration of creative curiosity into a grueling dive to my own subconscious, contemplating death, life and loss. Either way the process was a good experience. That being said I feel I'm not yet finished with the prior, so I'll probably be returning to the subjects of light and perspective on a later date!
